Leveraging nearly a decade of dedicated development in isolation technology, NOVOSENSE today announced the launch of its third-generation automotive-grade digital isolator series, NSI83xx, based on capacitive isolation technology. Compared to the previous NSI82xx series, the new generation features major improvements in EMI (Electromagnetic Interference) and EOS (Electrical Overstress) performance. The initial released model of the NSI83xx series includes 1-to-4 channel versions, offering system engineers a cost-effective solution for applications such as On-Board Chargers (OBC), Battery Management Systems (BMS), traction inverters, and PTC for thermal management systems in new energy vehicles.
The release of NOVOSENSE's third-generation NSI83xx series reflects the company’s continued R&D investment in isolation technology over the past 10 years. Built on NOVOSENSE’s industry-leading capacitive isolation platform, the NSI83xx series offers reinforced insulation with isolation voltage exceeding 10kVrms (1 minute) and can withstand surge voltages above 12kV. Under a 1ppm failure rate and a long-term working voltage greater than 1500Vrms, the capacitive isolation layer has a lifespan of over 30 years, meeting the stringent long-term reliability requirements of high-voltage systems and providing a secure solution for such applications.
Significantly Enhanced EMI Performance – Passes CISPR 25 Class 5 Across Full Frequency Range
With increasing voltage and power density in electric drive systems, more components are integrated into limited PCB space within vehicles, making EMI an even more complex and critical challenge to system stability and reliability. The NSI83xx series adopts NOVOSENSE’s proprietary EMI-optimized circuit design. In the stringent CISPR 25 Class 5 test, the series delivers more than 10dB of margin across the full frequency spectrum. This not only ensures compliance with strict automotive EMI standards but also reduces design complexity for system engineers and safeguards system stability in harsh electromagnetic environments.
Industry-Leading EOS and CMTI Performance – Enhancing System Reliability
Beyond EMI, the third-generation NSI83xx series excels in EOS and CMTI (Common Mode Transient Immunity) performance. Compared with the second generation, the NSI83xx series offers an approximately 10% improvement in EOS capability, exceeding 10V, which enhances device resilience against power overstress, preventing damage from abnormal power fluctuations, improving system reliability, and extending lifespan.
As SiC (Silicon Carbide) power devices rapidly gain adoption in the electric drive systems of new energy vehicles, digital isolators are required to handle stronger and faster common-mode transients due to higher switching frequencies and voltages. The NSI83xx series achieves an industry-leading typical CMTI of 200kV/μs, ensuring accurate and stable signal transmission even in environments with strong electromagnetic interference, thus avoiding false switching and signal distortion.
Additionally, the NSI83xx series demonstrates excellent power noise immunity. Under noise disturbances from 1kHz to 30MHz, the chip maintains normal output without errors, further boosting system reliability in complex operating environments. Whether used in BMS or traction inverters, these outstanding features ensure stable operation and minimize failure risk.
Packaging and Selection
The automotive-grade NSI83xx series, compliant with AEC-Q100 standards, is expected to enter mass production in August 2025. It is available in 1 to 4-channel versions, supporting SOP8, SOW8, SOW16, and ultra-wide-body SOWW16 packages. The SOWW16 package offers a creepage distance greater than 8mm, meeting safety standards for specific applications. The NSI83xx series supports a data rate of 100Mbps. Samples are now available and can be requested via the NOVOSENSE website or through the sales team (sales@novosns.com).
